Day 4 - Niagara

Why do I do it? Eating at midnight (ish) then going straight to bed

I felt like I was trying to sleep with a bowling ball up my jumper

I did sleep eventually though (loving the bed) and we woke early for breakfast

As the Niagara trip was picking us up early we had no time to explore so ate at the hotel

Joss went for the all you can eat buffet, whereas I could only manage a couple of tiny croissants

Joss won that round

The mini bus driver, John, arrived promptly and picked us and another couple up from the same hotel

Then we snaked to a few other hotels to pick everyone else up until the 23 seater was full

John had a dry wit and good knowledge of the area and so the 90 minute journey didn’t feel too bad

I particularly liked the way he pronounced “out” in words to sound like “oot “

It’s the small things that keep me happy

He also mentioned that one of the local ice hockey teams, the Toronto Marlies, were playing tomorrow- hmmmm

We stopped off at the first vantage point of the falls and were given 20 minutes to take some pictures

I got a bit trigger happy with the camera

One woman turned up 5 minutes late

At the second vantage point I again was trigger happy and this time the same woman was 10 minutes late

John chose to ignore my muffled calls to leave her ....

The finale for the falls was a trip on the boat when just before, John assured us we’d all be wet

He was a little too smug in the delivering of that line for my liking....

He was right though, soaked

After that we had an hour to scoff as much food as we could at an all you can eat buffet similar to that of Days

I had a decent crack at it

Joss and I had a beer each and I was a little taken aback to find out it was £10 per pint

A blow slightly softened by the fact it came with a complimentary pint glass

We did another stop to look at the river before going to a vineyard for wine tasting

No, I couldn’t taste the vanilla or the lemons, but the white was nice

Nor could I taste the blackberries and plumbs in the red, but that was nice too

The third and final wine, an ice wine which is basically a dessert wine, was absolutely foul and I just handed it back

Yuk

The final leg of the tour was a trip to the town of Niagara on the Lake which had lots and lots of boutique shops but was just too small for the number of tourists

Yes I get the irony

Apparently, June is a quiet month too....

The trip back seemed much longer as we were both shattered

In actual fact it DID take much longer because the new driver couldn’t find the hotels - at one point he shouted does anyone know where the Radisson is - to the reply “it’s behind you”

Panto come early

After going up to the 16th floor, failing to get into the room, back to the ground floor to get the keys reset and back up to the 16th, we decided on steak for tonight’s meal and I googled to find one

Quinn’s was only 15 minutes a way and the food was very good

Plus I liked the steak knife - it made me feel like crocodile Dundee

At the beginning of the meal we decided to go to a bar we’d done before after we’d finished

Half way through the meal we realised we were eating with our eyes closed

It was 9pm but with the time difference our bodies were still saying 2am and it had been a very early start

For the first time this holiday - we made a sensible choice, and just headed home after the meal

We are looking at the bigger picture and tonight I’m hoping will set us up for the next few days

We’ll see
