Day 9 - Statue of Liberty

So the plan for he day was to see the Statue of Liberty and we decided that, as it was a nice day, we’d walk

Nothing to do with the fear of the subway, honest

The route took us through Greenwich Village - what better place to have breakfast - but where the bloody hell are the plates??

Joss then went for a nails and shoulder massage treatment (no idea) whilst I had a walk around

After that, we walked to Battery Park

But we did manage to find an Irish Pub en route

All holiday we have been surfing the wave of luck and even through this 10 minute wait at security - we still made the ferry

And we had our first sight of Lady Liberty

Then we got closer

The ferry pulled up at Liberty Island and we could see the queue to get back on was HUGE

We also saw that there wasn’t much to do on the island so decided to stay on he ferry and go on to Ellis Island

Now, if I’m being honest it was great to be in a place so full of history, but I was expecting a bit more in the way of artefacts

It was good to see that they had better technology than I have at work currently

And that Boris Becker was clearly angling for a green card

Amongst all of the poignant history, though, the thing I will take away, is how much Americans love Bob Hope

Ellis Island did offer some good vantage points though

We then made our way back to the ferry and got on to the first one we saw - we should do the lottery

We then walked back to the hotel but we did manage to stop off at a bar in the Hudson District

And just as we were about to get back, we found ANOTHER bar - who knew it would be this easy ....

Back to the hotel and we decided to go for an Italian

We were going to venture out but the nearest Trattoria was actually connected to the hotel and as we were tired, we went there

We both asked for meatballs for a starter and were  disappointed when only one portion was brought out - the waitress had misunderstood

This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as our pizzas turned up

I managed to finish mine (just) but Joss “I’m going to have a pudding too” Gullis was beaten by hers, and so we both waddled away, barely able to make it to the lifts

Today’s most sensible choice was finishing it there and being able to fight another day, hopefully
